The Korean Music Awards hosted their 19th ceremony, streamed on March 1st 2022. The awards cover a diverse range of genres in Korea’s industry, including categories for Hip-Hop and R&B.
Korean Music Awards 2022 logoThe nominee list was curated by the Korean Music Awards Selection Committee comprised of industry professionals and executives, music critics, radio show producers, academics and writers. The committee’s full list of nominees was released February 9th 2022, with a series of videos featuring the nominees for each genre.
The committee states that it nominates and awards artists based on musical achievement over the past year, and avoids making decisions purely based on sales. They make their selection regardless of how mainstream the artist(s) are, and their aim is to restore and promote musical diversity to the public.
Hip-Hop and R&B artists were also spotlighted in these awards nominations, both with their own sub-categories for Best Album and Best Song respectively.
